Background
The Public Works Department is requesting approval to purchase two replacement dump trucks as included in the Equipment Replacement Fund budget for FY 2021.  These trucks serve the City's Public Works Department for snow and ice removal, dirt and gravel hauling, debris removal and hauling, and stormwater and street related projects.  One truck is a single axle dump truck (#351), up-fitted for the use of existing snow and ice equipment.  The second truck is a tandem axle dump truck (#353), up-fitted for the use of an existing salt spreader and a new snow plow that will be brought before the Commission at a future date.  These trucks will replace the department's older, higher-wear dump trucks that will be placed on the surplus list.

The replacement trucks are proposed to be purchased from the Knoxville, Tennessee branch of Worldwide Equipment, a company headquartered in Prestonburg, KY.  The purchase price and detailed specifications for this equipment are in accordance with the State of Tennessee Statewide Contract (SWC) #209-56450, Heavy Trucks.  SWC agreements are created to provide state and local governments the ability to purchase vehicles through low-bid contracts offered by the State's General Services Department.  The Purchase price for the two vehicles combined is $223,265.00, which is within the $225,000 budget for replacement vehicle purchases this year.

Accordingly, the Public Works Department staff is recommending approval to purchase these two trucks from Worldwide Equipment, under the state contract in the amount of $223,265.00.
