Resolution 2020-77 - Approval of Agreement with Axon Enterprise Incorporated to purchase TASER unit and TASER supplies

Background

The Police Department requests City Commission approval to purchase 1 new TASER X2 conducted electrical weapons (CEW) and related supplies from Axon Enterprise Inc. The TASER X2 is the device currently being used by all sworn staff of the Police Department. The original TASER purchase was approved by the Commission on April 11, 2016. (See Resolution 2016-21 for additional information regarding the initial purchase.)

The 1 additional TASER is needed so that a spare device is available if needed. The cost of each device is $1,275.00. This purchase also includes 170 new X2 cartridges at $39.75 each for a total of $6,757.50 and 45 batteries at $68 each for a total of $3,060. The cartridges and batteries are needed to conduct the yearly recertification of all BPD Officers who are currently issued TASER X2 CEWs.The total cost for this purchase is $11,242.50.

The devices are only available from Axon Enterprise Inc. (formerly TASER International) and the department currently has an active maintenance agreement for all in use devices via the TASER Assurance Plan. Funds for this purchase are available in the FY 2021 annual operating budget.
