Approval to Purchase a New Ford F250 4x4 Super Cab Pickup Truck with Utility Bed from Lonnie Cobb Ford Under Statewide Contract

Background

Public Works is requesting approval to purchase a Ford F250 4x4 Super Cab pickup truck with a utility box to replace a 2008 model Ford F250 extended cab truck that was involved in an accident in September of 2020. Despite the 2008 model being totalled in the accident, it still earned $8,100.00 in a GovDeals auction in February of 2021.

The loss of the truck has created a challenge for Public Works fleet on a daily basis. The FY 2022 budget includes $41,000 for replacement of this truck. Public Works has specified a utility box that will still allow for a removable light-duty salt spreader to be inserted into the truck bed for winter operations. Attached is a picture of an identical Water Services truck. The utility bed allows staff to keep tools safe and organized on a regular basis. This will improve efficiency otherwise lost by loading and unloading specific tools for different projects, and it will reduce the number of trips back and forth to the shop when an unexpected task comes up.

Lonnie Cobb Ford holds the State contract for the Ford F250. As part of their contract, they will add a utility body from UES (Utility Equipment Service, Inc in Spring Hill). As long as this truck is ordered before September 30, 2021 the price is fixed, although given the ongoing production delays, we are unsure if the truck will be a model year 2021 or 2022. Completion and delivery of this truck is not expected until April 2022 at the earliest. The truck as proposed would cost $54,470 prior to the State Contract discount. After the discount, the cost is $39,794, a difference of $14,676.

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends approval to purchase a Ford F250 4x4 Super Cab Pickup with Utility Body, from Lonnie Cobb Ford the current state contract holder.
