Approval to Purchase Network Assistance from Presidio.

Background

The City began a relationship with Presidio in 2010 when staff was researching a replacement phone system. We continue to have a good working relationship with many of Presidio's technicians and rely on their advanced technical knowledge. There are situations when the Technology Department staff does not have the knowledge or experience needed to work on some of the advanced networking infrastructure, firewalls, network storage, and other specialized software. The Presidio engineers are extremely knowledgeable about the intricate technologies that the City of Brentwood uses. They have been quick to respond to any emergency situations as needed.

We currently are working on three network projects that require advanced networking skills beyond the knowledge of the technology staff. We are able to leverage the State of Tennessee purchasing contract for purchasing labor rates related to the products we use. This agreement is for a 160-hour block of time at $175 per hour.

These projects are:

Finish installing Cisco ISE on network switch ports. (This software prevents unauthorized equipment or personnel from accessing the physical network.)
Configure all city buildings networks and the switches at City Hall to have a redundant physical network connection to the core switches located in the primary data center.
Install SSL certificates in the new firewalls located in the primary data center and setup decrypting SSL(https) data to allow for inspection of the data packets for possible viruses, malware or spyware.

These services are budgeted in the Technology Department.

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends the purchase of agreement from Presidio pursuant to the State of Tennessee contract.
