Submitted by: David Gossett, Police
Department: Police

Information
Subject
Approval of purchase of four (4) vehicles for the Police Department under State Contract.
Background
The Police Department requests authorization to purchase four (4) vehicles for various police functions under State Contract. Three of the vehicles are replacements under the Equipment Replacement Fund and the fourth is a replacement for unit 1007, the vehicle that was driven by Officer Legieza and was totaled in his crash. Funding for the four vehicles comes from the Equipment Replacement Fund.  The City expects to recover close to full value from the at-fault driver's insurance for the vehicle destroyed in the accident.

Two of the proposed replacement vehicles will be assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division and will remain unmarked to be used by Detectives. One of the proposed vehicles is a Nissan Titan and the other proposed vehicle is a Toyota Avalon. The use of these vehicles will make them less noticeable as a police vehicle. The third proposed vehicle will be assigned to the Police Administration Division and will remain unmarked to be used by the Chief of Police. The proposed vehicle for the Chief is a Chevrolet Tahoe.

The fourth proposed vehicle will be assigned to the Patrol Division to be assigned to a Field Training Officer and will be fully equipped and marked. The vehicle proposed for the Patrol Division is a Dodge Durango Pursuit. The Durango is an SUV that will allow for more cab space for an extra officer during training.

The cost of the Dodge Durango is $30,103.50.  The cost on the Nissan Titan is $37,398.00. The cost for the Toyota Avalon is $35,687.00. The cost on the Chevrolet Tahoe is $40,932.00. The total cost for all four vehicles is $144,120.50.

Murfreesboro Nissan has been awarded the Tennessee State Purchasing Contract for the Nissan Titan. Alan Jay Fleet Sales has been awarded the Tennessee State Purchasing Contract for the Toyota Avalon. Columbia Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram has been awarded the Tennessee State Purchasing Contract for the Dodge Durango. Wilson County Motors has been awarded the Tennessee State Purchasing Contract for the Chevrolet Tahoe.

The purchase of these vehicles is in accordance with the FY 2021 Equipment Replacement Fund's vehicle replacement schedule.

Pease contact the Police Chief if any additional information is needed.
