Resolution 2018-64 Participation in TML Risk Management 2018 Safety Partner Grant Program
Submitted by: David Windrow, Fire & Rescue
Department: Fire & Rescue

Information
Subject
Resolution 2018-64 - Authorizing the City's Participation in the 2018 TML Risk Management Pool "Safety Partner" Matching Grant Program.
Background
The City’s workers’ compensation insurance coverage is provided by the Tennessee Municipal League Risk Management Pool. The TML Risk Management Pool has an annual Safety Partners Matching Grant Program. Under this program, member cities can request funding to assist in the purchase of items or services designed to enhance worker safety. Grant awards are for 50% of the cost of the item, up to a maximum grant of $1,500.

The City's Employee Safety Committee recommends submission of a grant application for $1,500 to assist in the purchase of 70 Class 2 Public Safety double breakaway vests. These vests are worn anytime personnel are working within 10 feet of a roadway.  This applies to all activities, emergency and non-emergency, in accordance with General Operating Guideline #211.  The double breakaway zipper allows the vest to breakaway from both sides of the zipper, making it a 6 Point Breakaway vest. The performance cut offers max comfort and allows access to bunker gear pockets or portable radio at the waistline. The Chevron reflective pattern on the back offers max visibility. The RED-FIRE vest meets the most current ANSI/ISEA 107-2015 standard.

The total cost is $3,288.60 with the City matching funds for this initial purchase ($1,644.30)  coming from the Fire Department’s FY 2019 operating budget. The attached resolution is required by TML to complete the application package.
