Request Authorization to Purchase a 2021 Ford F-350 Pickup for the Fire & Rescue Department.

Background

The Fire & Rescue Department requests approval to purchase one (1) replacement 4×4 pickup truck included in the FY 2022 operating budget. Each fire station is assigned a utility pickup truck (“squad”) used for hydrant maintenance, trailer hauling, entering limited access areas, and other utilitarian use where taking an apparatus may be neither practical nor feasible.

This proposed pickup truck will be assigned to Station 4 on Sunset Road and will replace a 2007 Dodge Durango that was originally obtained after being surplussed by the Brentwood Police Department. The Fire & Rescue Department utilized that vehicle for several more years before it was recently decommissioned. The Fire & Rescue Department has specified a Ford F-350 Super Duty 4×4 since it has the tow capacity to pull all department trailers, including a tandem axle Special Operations' trailer that weighs approximately 13,000 pounds.

Ford of Murfreesboro has been awarded the state purchasing contract for the 2021 Ford F-350. The State Contract Base Price for this truck is $40,435. Additional factory options including an engine block heater and platform running boards add $545 for a total cost of $40,980. Lights, graphics, and other emergency equipment will be purchased separately at a cost not to exceed $7,000.
