Approval to Purchase Radio Equipment for Public Safety Personnel.

Background

The Police and Fire Departments request City Commission approval to purchase four (4) additional portable radios and two (2) radio control heads for public safety personnel. The purchase would be made from Motorola Solutions.

Three (3) of the portable radios will be assigned to the Police Department and were included in the FY 2020 budget for new staff positions. The other radio is a replacement that will be assigned to the Fire Department.The two (2) control heads are needed for mobile radios which will be installed in new unmarked vehicles in the Police Department.

Motorola Solutions is the provider for all radios currently in use by public safety personnel. The APX6000 radios for PD with accessories are priced at $5,494.92 each for a total cost of $16,484.76. The APX6000XE radio for FD with accessories is priced at $5,719.92. The 03 Control Heads with accessories are priced at $906.57 each for a total cost of $1,813.14. The total cost for four (4) radios and two (2) control heads is $24,017.82. All pricing is per the State of Tennessee contract (SWC418).
