Approval to Purchase One (1) 2019 Dodge Charger for the Fire & Rescue Department.

Background

The Fire & Rescue Department requests approval to purchase one (1) replacement vehicle as identified in the FY 2019 operating budget. This marked vehicle will be used by the Fire Chief and will replace a 2011 Dodge Charger as a front-line response vehicle. The 2011 Charger will rotate within the fleet to replace a 2009 Dodge Charger with 126,000 miles, which will be surplused.

Currently the Dodge Charger is the only police-rated sedan available on state contract. It has been our experience that purchasing sedans equipped as police or pursuit vehicles provides both cost savings and enhanced reliability for the rigors of fire & rescue department use, and the Dodge Charger model has proven to be a reliable vehicle for both the Fire & Rescue Department and the Police Department for several years. An all-wheel drive (AWD) model is being selected to provide safe and reliable response during periods of inclement weather. The State contract pricing for the 2019 Dodge Charger with the specified equipment package is $22,921.25. This price is through the current contract holder, Columbia Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Columbia, TN.

Additionally, the department has allocated $500 for graphics and $5,000 for lighting and other emergency equipment for a total vehicle cost of $28,421.25. The amount allocated for this vehicle in the FY 2019 Operating Budget is $28,500.00.

The cost of the vehicle is $22,921.25 using state contract pricing. The total price to acquire and outfit the vehicle is $28,500. Funds are available in the FY 2019 operating budget for this purpose.
