Subject

City Commission approval to purchase 50-High Mast Lighting Fixtures to replace the 50 existing fixtures mounted on 7 high mast poles at the I-65 and Moores Lane Interchange.

Background

The City of Brentwood Traffic Division maintains the high mast lighting poles and fixtures at the I-65 and Moores Lane Interchange. The FY 2022 Capital Projects Fund budget includes funds for replacement of the remaining original light fixtures. Given that the current fixtures are obsolete and parts are no longer available, combined with ever-increasing materials costs, we feel this is the best time to proceed with the replacement of the light fixtures. Several of the existing fixtures have been rebuilt using any remaining available parts. The current fixtures use high pressure sodium bulbs and the new replacement fixtures will employ all LED technology.

The Public Works Department has considered and deferred this project over the past couple of years, hoping to learn more about TDOT's schedule for the redesign of the Moores Lane Interchange and how that project might affect the high mast light poles. Unfortunately, it appears the TDOT project is still several years away and staff feels the lighting issues need to be addressed now.

Public Works bid out the parts necessary for this in-house replacement work, receiving two bids on June 2, 2021. The low bidder was Graybar Electric of Nashville, and their price was nearly 10% lower than the other bid received.

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends the purchase of 50-HMLED3 PK3 50K HVOLT AW DGRAAO Holophane light fixtures, as bid from Graybar Electric in Nashville, for $43,750.
