Approval to purchase lighting upgrades for Granny White Park tennis courts from Musco Sports Lighting, Inc.

Background

The FY 21 Capital Improvements Program includes funding within the Facilities Maintenance Fund for the replacement of tennis court lights with LED sports lighting at Granny White Park. The current system is well over 30 years old and has had continuing maintenance needs over the last couple of years.

Musco’s quote of $106,857.00 came in slightly higher than the budgeted amount of $100,000 for this project, however it is expected that the overage will be made up by other projects come in under budget within the Facilities Maintenance Fund.

Musco is a sole source provider for this project, but they also were awarded a contract with Sourcewell purchasing cooperative. It is important that the new lighting system be compatible with the Musco Control Link system already in place elsewhere in the park system. Therefore, no competitive bids were solicited. However, based on prior purchases and staff's experience with lighting systems, the quoted price is considered fair and reasonable. It should also be noted that there will a reduction in energy and maintenance costs by at least 40%, if not more, over the current system.

Staff recommends approval of this project. If approved, the project will begin in mid-summer and the work should be completed within 30 days of the start date. The Sourcewell contract and price quote sheet are attached for your review.
