Resolution 2020-55 - Endorsement of Applications for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Governor's Local Government Support Grants

Background

On April 6, 2020, Governor Lee announced $200 million in grants to be distributed among county and city governments across Tennessee for one-time local expenses in fiscal year 2020-2021. Funds will be distributed as a direct appropriation grant after July 1, 2020. Required documents include the attached applications and resolution passed by the local governing body which must be submitted prior to April 30, 2021. All funds must be expended by June 30, 2023.

Funding is based on population as published by the US Census Bureau July 1, 2018 data. The City of Brentwood is eligible to receive $967,954 in funds to be used for road projects, technology upgrades, capital maintenance, utility system upgrades, and public safety projects.

As discussed during the FY 2021 budget preparation process, staff is proposing to use $500,000 towards completion of the project to widen Sunset Road from Concord Road to the new bridge north of Ragsdale Road. The balance of grant monies, $467,954, is proposed to be used in lieu of a portion of State Street Aid funds towards fiscal year 2020-2021 annual resurfacing costs which total $2,400,000.
