Ordinance 2018-06 - Amendment to Brentwood Municipal Code regarding membership composition for the Library Board.

Background

Section 38-26 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Brentwood establishes the membership, appointment, and term of the Library Board (see attached). This section currently provides that no more than five members of the Library Board be of the same sex. This language previously mirrored the state law (Tennessee Code Annotated §10-3-103) setting forth city and county library board membership. However, in preparing for the next Library Board member appointments, staff discovered that this provision in state law has been removed by the legislature.

Staff recommends amending section 38-26 of the Code of Ordinances to delete the last sentence which requires the board to be comprised of no more than five members of the same sex. This change will align the Municipal Code language with the latest version of state law.
