Resolution 2024-31 - Reduction of Speed Limit on Johnson Chapel Road W. between Deerwood Lane and Murray Lane.

Background

As part of a comprehensive evaluation of the traffic along Johnson Chapel Road W., Sullivan Engineering, Inc. (SEI) prepared a report for the City's consideration on April 6, 2023. As part of the regularly scheduled City Commission Briefing on September 21, 2023, Dickie Sullivan from Sullivan Engineering, Inc. presented a high-level overview of the corridor study which included three options.

The most realistic and cost-effective of the three options presented, at least to start with, is option #3. It includes no road construction, but does include numerous safety improvements related to signage, pavement markings, sight-line improvements through tree removal, etc. In addition, the reduction of the speed limit from 30 MPH to 25 MPH was proposed as part of this option.

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends approval of Resolution number 2024-31, reducing the posted speed limit on Johnson Chapel Road W. to 25 MPH, as a part of the recommended safety improvements listed under Option #3 in the April 2023 Corridor Study for Johnson Chapel Road.
