Approval to Purchase Cisco Switches for PD HQ from Presidio

Background

The new Police Headquarters facility will have a variety of technology components including audio, video, access control systems, wireless networking, telephones, and security cameras, all of which are connected to the City’s network. The devices that comprise the network include items such as ethernet switches, wireless access points, fiber optic cable, firewalls, patch cables and software. The technology department has been working with the Police Department, city administration, architects and consultants to design the network for the new facility. This building will also function as the City’s disaster recovery (DR) site.

As we approach the installation after final changes have been made, we realized we need to add 4 additional Cisco switches for the facility.

The core Cisco networking hardware includes:

Two (2) 48-port switches for backup if a production switch fails.
Two (2) 24-port switches for inbound Internet service that allows for redundancy if a firewall fails. Otherwise, it is a manual process to physically move cables on the firewalls.

The cost for the networking equipment is $24,957.08 and will be purchased from Presidio through the Tennessee NASPO contract.
