Resolution 2024-27 - Agreement with Gadco Lawn Care for Bush-hogging Services for the Parks and Recreation Department
Submitted by: Dave Bunt, Parks & Recreation
Department: Parks & Recreation

Information
Subject
Resolution 2024-27 - Agreement with Gadco Lawn Care for Bush-hogging Services for the Parks and Recreation Department
Background
Recently, the Parks and Recreation Department solicited bids for mowing of City parks and greenways for fiscal years 2025 through 2029 (contract to be effective July 1, 2024). The bid specifications allowed the contract to be split between mowing services and bush-hogging services. The scope was also updated to include additions and changes that have resulted from the incorporation of new parks and greenways into the system over the past couple of years, including Windy Hill Park.

Prior to accepting bids, a mandatory pre-bid meeting was held with five interested contractors to review the full scope of the work in each of the City's parks and greenways.  This year, separate companies provided low bids for the two different types of services.  Two bids were received for bush-hogging services as defined within the scope of work. Gadco Lawn Care submitted the lowest bid amount at $39,959.20 annually for bush-hogging services, based on the estimated number of cuts for the areas identified.  The locations for bush-hogging and the unit prices (per mow) are listed in the attached contract.  The contract is structured so that the City determines the actual number of cuts per location based on need and the unit prices in the bid. In addition, the City has the option to renew the contract for up to 5 years if the Parks and Recreation Department is satisfied with the quality of service. The contract provides that renewal unit prices will increase no more than 5% from the previous year. Also included in the contract is a cost per acre for any new park land that may be added to the system during the contract period.   Gadco Lawn care is currently the contractor for the City and has done an acceptable job.

The contract award for mowing services will be with a different contractor and will be presented to the City Commission under a separate agenda item.

Please contact the Parks and Recreation Director if you have any questions.
