Background
On February 8, 2021, the Board of Commissioners approved an agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates in the amount of $88,700 for engineering and landscape design services associated with development of an inclusive playground in Granny White Park.  That design work is now complete and various construction and playground equipment related contracts are on this December 13, 2021 agenda for City Commission consideration to initiate construction of the playground.

When the original design agreement with Kimley-Horn was approved, staff noted that the scope of work did not include any funds for construction administration services during actual construction of the playground and that those services would be negotiated later once the full scope of the construction project was fully defined.

The proposed Amendment #1 to the agreement with Kimley-Horn provides for the following construction administration services:
  • Monthly site visits (maximum 6) to assess and observe contractor's work.
  • Weekly calls with city staff to answer questions, provide direction, etc.
  • Up to two (2) punch list reviews upon contractor's substantial completion.
  • Review of contractor submitted shop drawings and response to contractor Requests For Information (RFIs).

The proposed fee for these construction administration services is $17,400.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of the attached resolution and amendment to the design services agreement with Kimley-Horn.
