Authorization to Surplus Police K9 (Lexie) and K9 Kennel

Background

Staff recommends approval to surplus and donate/transfer ownership of Police K-9 (Lexie) to her handler, Officer Steve Holder. Likewise, staff requests to surplus and donate the K-9 kennel that was constructed with city funds and is located on the property of Officer Holder. Lexie has been in service since August of 2010 and is now 12 years old. The average age for retiring a Police K-9 is somewhere between 10 to 12 years. The Police Department officially retired Lexie on Friday, February 28, 2020. A new K-9 has already been purchased and trained to replace Lexie.

Staff recommends the approval of this surplus request.
