Resolution 2021-20 - Authorizing the Sale and Disposal of Surplus Property

Background

Periodically, staff requests authorization from the City Commission to sell and dispose of surplus property and equipment based on a review and recommendation from City departments. The City vehicles and equipment shown on the attached list have been determined to have exceeded their useful lives and cannot be cost-effectively maintained or refurbished. The equipment also takes up storage space which is limited in the various City facilities.

Significant items on the list are: 2005 Freightliner Chipper Truck, 2006 Ford F250 Four-wheel Drive Truck, 2006 Ford 500 Truck, 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2007 Chevrolet Truck with snow plow, and 2014 Dodge Charger. Per state law, this property and equipment must be disposed of by sealed bid or at an advertised public auction (including online auctioning) unless transferred or donated to another government. Staff proposes to use the online auction service GovDeals to sell some of the larger items, including the vehicles. Several items have been determined unsalvageable and will be disposed of properly. Staff is recommending any remaining items not sold through GovDeals online services or disposed of to be sold via a public auction. The auction is being coordinated by Williamson County to be held in late September or early October 2021.
