Approval of purchase of eight (8) Stalker Dual Pro radar units for the Police Department.

Background

The Police Department requests approval for the purchase of eight (8) Stalker Dual Pro radar units. This purchase is in conjunction with replacement of eight (8) police vehicles.

Applied Concepts, Inc. is the vendor that has been awarded the Tennessee State purchasing contract for radar units. Stalker radar is the standardized radar currently in use in all Police Department vehicles.

Six (6) Stalker Dual Pro radar units will be installed in Dodge Chargers at a cost of $1,823.70 per unit. One (1) Stalker Dual Pro will be installed in a Ford Utility Interceptor at the same cost of $1,823.70. One (1) Stalker Dual DSR 2X will be installed in a Directed Enforcement (DET) Ford Utility Interceptor at a cost of $2,923.70. The DSR 2X radar has enhanced functionality which makes it a better fit for the traffic-related work typically done by DET Officers.

The total cost of this purchase is $15,689.60. Funding for this purchase will come from the Equipment Replacement Fund as part of the budgeted replacement cost for new police vehicles.
