Approval of Donation of Surplus Police D.A.R.E. Vehicle

Background

Staff recommends approval to donate the 2008 Dodge Nitro/Police D.A.R.E. Vehicle that has recently been replaced and therefore no longer needed by the Brentwood Police Department. The estimated book value of this vehicle is $5,600.00. This vehicle was purchase with drug fund monies, and as such, a donation is permissible for certain allowable uses - Drug Enforcement or Drug Education. If we opted to sell the vehicle, funds would be required to go back into the drug fund.

We have received a request for this vehicle from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, who would like to specifically use the vehicle for D.A.R.E. (see attached letter of request). The Marshall County Sheriff's Office started their D.A.R.E. program in the spring of 2017, but they do not have the adequate funds to grow their program or purchase a vehicle for Drug Education.

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends approval to donate this surplus D.A.R.E. vehicle to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.
