Background

The City uses a virtual computer environment that enables Technology Department staff to run multiple virtual machines on a single physical machine, with each virtual machine sharing the resources of that one physical computer across multiple environments saving the city money by not having to purchase large quantities of physical servers. Today we are operating approximately 130 virtual servers on nine physical servers in our primary data center.

Several years ago, the Technology staff did extensive research to find the best solution to manage backup solutions for our computer environment and purchased software from Veeam Software. This software allows for more efficient management of backing up, restoring and replication of data for all of our virtual computers. The renewal of annual licensing fees is available on GSA contract from CDWG. for $15,675.60, which is a budgeted expense from the Technology Department.

Technology staff is requesting the approval to purchase of Veeam software renewal from CDWG for $15,675.60. This purchase will be made from the company's GSA contract. The contract us under GSA's Schedule 70, which is one of the schedules from which local governments may make purchases.
