Approval to Purchase Book Reprinting for the Brentwood Historic Commission

Background

In 2012, John M. Oden Sr. wrote The Brentwood I Remember: A History of the Brentwood Community 1850-1950. The Brentwood Historic Commission plans to reprint the book in commemoration of the City's 50th birthday celebration.

Late last year, the City entered into a memorandum of understanding with the author that the Historic Commission may reprint up to 500 copies, that the author will retain the copyright for the book, and that the City will provide author with 25 copies of the book for the author’s use. Any copies of the book that are reprinted by the City may be sold by the Historic Commission with the proceeds of such sales going to the Historic Commission trust fund.

In order to maintain the integrity of the quality of the original printing (as was agreed to by the author and the City), the Historic Commission must use the original printing company, Bind Tech Inc. As such, this is a sole source purchase.

The quote from Bind Tech Inc. is to print 500 copies at $25.50 each for a total of $12,750.00. The funds will come from the Historic Commissions Donations Held in Trust Fund.

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends approval of the quote from Bind Tech Inc. to reprint 500 copies of The Brentwood I Remember: A History of the Brentwood Community 1850-1950 at a per book price of $25.50.
