Resolution 2017-04 - Purchase and installation of small shelters at Granny White Park off NJPA Contract

Background

The FY 2017 Capital Improvements plan includes funding within the Facilities Maintenance Fund for the replacement of two small gazebo shelters at Granny White Park. These shelters are located next to the playground and are now over 30 years old and have had several repairs over that last couple of years. (See attached picture as reference.) If approved, they will be replaced with two Poligon REK Shelters identical to the new ones at Wikle Park. (See attached picture.) The new shelters will have metal roofs painted the same color as the pavilion and bathroom buildings.

Staff also solicited informal price quotes from other dealers, but after reviewing the quotes, it was clear that the NJPA contract price was lower than the City could expect to receive if bids are solicited for the shelters directly.

The NJPA contract amount of $23,677.00 from Porter Corporation is within the budgeted amount ($30,000) for this purchase. Attached is the NJPA contract information and quote. This project will be completed this spring.

It should be noted that staff will handle the demolition of the old structures. Staff will also purchase to new picnic tables outside of this contract.

Staff recommends approval of this project. If approved, the project will be completed this spring.
